The Mighty Hunter (Urban Wildlife #4,583)

Eight photos beneath the cut. Dog, lizards, hilarity ensues. This was all just about an hour ago. *g*

Lizard Hunt #1
There's a lizard in there! I saw it move! (The plant is a Rhipsalis pilocarpa. Contrary to what the site says, the spines are not sharp. I call it my Fuzzy Green Caterpillar Plant.) Note the bright green anole lizard ON THE BASKET.

Lizard Hunt #2
It's in there ... I know it is ...

Lizard Hunt #3
There you are!

Lizard Hunt #4
The object of the hunt.

Lizard Hunt #5
Needless to say, chair, plant, and basket all take a tumble.

Lizard Hunt #6
But wait, there's another one!

Lizard Hunt #7
They've gotta be here! Why can't I find them?

Lizard Hunt #8
Curses! THEY ESCAPED!!!

My poor dog. She's such a genius. :-D

Your lizards are lucky my lad wasn't there. He would have "helped" Chango, and he might be quick enough to even corner an anole. He's swift enough that he almost bagged a starling from the air the other morning, and he has more than enough predatory instincts to share with Chango. Heh. You can really see what a sweet girl she is! :)

I was actually surprised at just how "bird focused" the Fiend is. Given his breed I would expect him to be more focused on mammals. Of course his prey drive is *monstrous*, but he's even more keyed on birds than on hares/rabbits/cats. Ground squirrels and tree squirrels don't rate particularly high either, for all they make enticing noise and run fetchingly. (This contrasts with Aidan, who was a ferocious and highly efficient rodent killer, of all varieties.) Predation aside Cyrus really seems to have a personal animus for the crow family, so they must have teased him at some point. :D

Did you ever try the Halti with Chango? And if so, did it help?

Heh. Poor Chango. Try not putting it on her at first. Just hold it out so she sniffs it, then give her a treat. Repeat it a few times. Then hold the nose loop open and lure her to put her nose through for a treat. That can be enough for one evening. Slow and steady wins out! Eventually she will be "YES! Halti = WALKS!". The Fiend will leap up and spin around in the air to land in a sit in front of me to have his harness put on, because walks are the awesomeness that outweigh the indignities of necessary technology.
