Sunday

Cold, grey, occasional light rain. A very damp 45 degrees (7.2 Celsius). Lots of small birds in the backyard -- chickadees, goldfinches, juncos.

So here, have a photo of a real falcon taking on a high-flying kite on a string.

The weather is still icy here, but it's supposed to warm on Tuesday. I'm going to make chili.
That's a charming picture. Here, you funny looking featherless bird, let me show you how it's done.

The same way I make everything, very very simply! ;) I'm no cook. A can of crushed tomatoes, two cans of kidney beans, onion, fried hamburger, and a package of chili mix. Julia Childs would cry, but in my defense it's my mother's recipe (except she includes mushrooms) and I don't like my food to be very spicy.

My chili recipe would also make Julia Child cry. It's a can of chili beans, a can of Mexican-style diced tomatoes, and a half a pound of browned pork sausage. It's what I made when I first got married and was learning how to cook actual meals, as opposed to the occasional dish. Corgiguy imprinted on it like a baby duck and won't have it made any other way. :D

I've never heard of mushrooms in chili, but it sounds good. In Alabama, they eat chili over rice, which surprised me the first time I saw it.

If at all possible, make chili with deer or elk - the flavor is so much richer.
