Because "write what you know" has stopped some people from writing. You say "write what you know!" and folks will say "but I don't know anything!" and thus they never try. And a voice that might have been great, might have soared, might have set fire to generations, is never heard. Writing what you know can be a good thing, but it isn't the only thing.
Hot again. Will be hot for the next few days, but still must run some errands today.
