Friday

Sunny, warm and breezy. Just now pulled the sheets off the bed and put them in the wash.

Almost finished with The Food Explorer and have really liked it, although I have spotted one typo (site for sight). Also, ordered Robert Cargill's Sea of Rust and it was delivered today, so I'm happy about that. Also also ordered a refill of the chili powder we've been using -- Penzey's Chili 3000, which has a wonderfully deep flavor and is just delicious. :D

Last couple of days have been very blah because I've not been sleeping well. This too shall pass (she said, philosophically).

Cooking Rec

The other night we made a pot of chili. We tried a new chili powder I'd gotten from Penzey's Spices -- Chili 3000, and you guys, it was SO GOOD. Spicy and warm, with a really nice depth of flavor and a hint of smokiness. Two thumbs up, will use again. Also, we've ordered other spices and spice blends from Penzey's in the past, and they've been consistently excellent. So two thumbs up for Penzey's as well. :D

It was overcast and damp and very warm all day today. The 10-day forecast for our area shows it cooling off by Wednesday, but no freezing temps at all which is good since we're supposed to get lots of rain. It seems almost as if we're transitioning to spring already without ever having had a real winter.

Still Tuesday

Well, the new recipe from here was ... meh. It wasn't bad at all, but it just wasn't very ... delicious. I don't think we did anything wrong or left anything out -- it's just the risk one runs with new things. OH WELL.

Reading Marie Brenner's Apples and Oranges: My Brother and Me, Lost and Found, which is a nonfiction account of what it sounds like -- the writer's relationship (often stormy) with her older brother.

Also read this short story tonight -- Nick Mamatas' A Night Out at a Nice Place. I thought it was interesting and inventive, with great, creative wordplay, but my main reaction was "What did I just read?" :D
