1. Grab the book closest to you.
2. Open it on page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Copy the next three sentences into your blog.
5. Tag five people. Or not.

There are actually two books closest to me -- right hand and left hand and all that. So here's The Day of Battle, by Rick Atkinson, and The Night of the Gun, by David Carr.

"You're bitching, first of all. Everybody knows why you're mad; they think I owe you money or whatever, that I'm not paying my coke debts. You did a lot of people a lot of favors, people liked you, sometimes people didn't like me."

From The Night of the Gun.

Perhaps aware that he resembled "a rather unsuccessful drygoods shopkeeper," as a Canadian correspondent wrote, the general preferred sitting alone in back so "there won't be any doubt which one is me." As he flicked his Egyptian fly whisk, one observer thought him "tense as a mousetrap," but when the car stopped and he stood on the seat his raspy voice carried with the authority of a man accustomed to being heard. "I advise all of you to leave the Eyetie wine alone."

From The Day of Battle. That's General Montgomery. Hee.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em. ;-)
