And the Adventure Continues ...
Response time has dropped considerably, and I haven't even tried to log onto AOL yet. I'm thinking part of the reason is that there are 3 security-software programs on this laptop, even though 2 of them aren't working correctly (the Norton that came pre-loaded can't run a live update because there's a coding bug, and while Spyware Doctor will run a scan, it won't remove any Bad Things it finds without a registration number -- i.e., a purchased, licensed version of Spyware Doc, as opposed to the free trial version I had. This only started yesterday.)
That leaves AVG, which is running and probably disagreeing vehemently with Norton and S.D every step of the way.
In other news, sunny and warm. Chango is downstairs, lying on the cool foyer tiles. Huge nightmare at 5:45 this morning (you don't even want to know). Gah.
ETA: Have uninstalled Spyware Doctor and response time has jumped exponentially. Sheesh. Looking at ways to uninstall Norton.

I think someone needs to go to the bookstore or to do some other very relaxing and soothing activity today :-)

I use AVG and Ad-Aware on my home computer, and AVG, Ad-Aware and Spybot on the office computer. They're all free and work great. I got to see AVG in action the other day when it detected a virus on a website I visited. It let me know immediately and dealt with it.

I am not a computer-idiot and haven't been able to rid myself of the thing, sicked special removal progs at it unsuccessfully, and had even 2 very PC-savvy friends on it who also had to give up. It prevents me from installing another, better anti-virus program since the combination is infamous for shooting Windows to pieces, which I'm not going to risk. Thankfully the router also comes equipped with its own security so at least my PC's protected via LAN. But it's damned annoying and Norton has gained an undying enemy in me: next PC I rather pay more than get me another pre-installed OEM-version...
