Response time has dropped considerably, and I haven't even tried to log onto AOL yet. I'm thinking part of the reason is that there are 3 security-software programs on this laptop, even though 2 of them aren't working correctly (the Norton that came pre-loaded can't run a live update because there's a coding bug, and while Spyware Doctor will run a scan, it won't remove any Bad Things it finds without a registration number -- i.e., a purchased, licensed version of Spyware Doc, as opposed to the free trial version I had. This only started yesterday.)

That leaves AVG, which is running and probably disagreeing vehemently with Norton and S.D every step of the way.

In other news, sunny and warm. Chango is downstairs, lying on the cool foyer tiles. Huge nightmare at 5:45 this morning (you don't even want to know). Gah.

ETA: Have uninstalled Spyware Doctor and response time has jumped exponentially. Sheesh. Looking at ways to uninstall Norton.

And pre-loaded crap software is why it can be a good idea to look at business-class laptops rather than the ones aimed at "normal" consumers. The business ones are often much more of a blank slate when they come to you. (aka Inspiron vs. Latitude for Dell)
