Monday

Sunny, warm, and hugely windy. Waiting on a substantial line of storms to get here, probably within the hour.

In the meantime, here are a couple of excellent reads -- first, Something for Nothing, from the Paris Review Daily. American crooks and con men from the early 20th century, who talked a good enough game to take millions from their unsuspecting marks, guys with names like Soapy Smith, Snitzer the Kid, Appetite Bill, and Big Joe Furey, who absconded with $45,000 from J. Frank Norfleet, a mustachioed cattle rancher from the Texas panhandle, in a fake stock-market scheme known as “the rag,” a drama in nine acts. And yes, I can readily imagine Wilson in the role of a silver-tongued confidence man. :-D

Also, for the history/research geeks among us (yay!) -- the 1940 U.S. Census is due to be released on April 2nd. This will be So. Cool.
