Sigh

I have a terrible confession to make. I hated the X-Files reboot.

Oh my god, when did Scully and Mulder get so tired? And I don't mean world-weary, we've-seen-it-all tired. I mean WOODEN LINE-READING SLEEPWALKING tired. And Mulder throws all his theories about aliens out the window in about five fucking seconds. And don't even get me started on this Tea Party-Glenn Beck-FEMA death camps-the government is out to kill us all bullshit. FFS.

I did love the old opening credits. I was delighted to see Cigarette-Smoking Man at the end.

That was about it. But I am going to watch until at least Episode 3, because Episode 3 was written by Darin Morgan and is supposed to be great. (Darin Morgan wrote "Humbug," "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose," and "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'" for the original show.)

I dreamed early this morning that I was trying to buy something (IDK what it was) at some tiny village shop with old wooden beams, and I was using a bowl of coins (only they weren't U.S. dimes and quarters) and the shopkeeper kept counting them and handing some back because they were counterfeit. So he'd take three or four coins and hand back one, and I'd look at it and it would have holes punched in it, and I'd have to look for another coin.

TL;DR, I was trying to get something but I was using fake money. Somehow I feel like this is a metaphor for my life. :-P

I feel vindicated in not bothering about the X-Files. I liked the original series, but the earlier strange one off episodes. By the time they started seriously getting into the Aliens/Government Conspiracy/Cigarette Smoking Man I tuned out. I watched a bit of the last two seasons just to see how it ended. Some episodes, like the one with the numbers, were great. My reaction to the news about the reboot was "Meh, probably more aliens/government conspiracy. Pass."

Your dream is indeed a powerful metaphor for feeling like some of the things that you value are not what they seem.
Edited (Edited to add: or that you're trying to succeed but things you didn't know about are making it difficult. And now I must go to work. :)) 2016-01-25 14:18 (UTC)
