nightdog_barks: (Glass Full of Rain)
We FINALLY got some decent rain early this morning, along with lots of thunder and lightning. Now it is partly sunny and not too bad.

Stayed up way too late last night when I noticed TCM was showing Eraserhead and I watched the first 30 or so minutes of it. Have any of you guys ever seen it? It's certainly ... um. I mean, I did think some of it was actually funny, like at the beginning when Henry (Jack Nance) is in his apartment and there's dead ... plants/ivy/vegetable matter all over the place, and he looks straight into the camera like, "You see what I have to live with." I stayed with it until the first scene with Mutant Baby and then I went to bed (it was about 1:30 in the morning).

Does anyone recognize either/both of these two Housefics? The second one (hiding in rafters watching funeral) sounds vaguely familiar to me but I can't place it ...

EDITED TO ADD ... One fic found, one fic ... well, maybe. Are you out there, [personal profile] verbal_kint? See comments on this post for details, thanks to [personal profile] menolly_au. :D

Have been reading Jay McInerney's Brightness Falls. It is set in 1987, which seems like a lifetime ago and another world. McInerney doesn't appear to believe in consistent question marks, though, because there are many many sentences like this -- "Who is this person," Russell asked Donna. But there are other sentences where people are asking questions, AND THERE ARE QUESTION MARKS. I don't know. It's just an annoying tic in an otherwise good book.
nightdog_barks: (House Reading)
So there is a fic Career Day Challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson, and it reminded me of a fic from back in the day -- a story where either House or Wilson (or both?) was a tailor. Does anyone else remember this? Or am I imagining things? All I have is a super-vague recollection of one of them ... being a tailor. In a tailor's shop.

EDITING TO ADD that perhaps the tailor shop was a cover? And everyone was really part of a spy organization? Which, I know, sounds kind of like Kingsman, but this was years and years ago, way before the movie.

OTHERWISE. Warm and sunny here after some much-needed rain. I have seen a couple of hummingbirds in the past week, so today I hung a hummingbird feeder in the backyard. Also on our nightly walks I have FINALLY started seeing wildlife again -- so far just armadillos and cottontails.

I am reading Christopher Buehlman's Those Across the River, which is about weird happenings and family secrets in the Depression-era American South. It is obvious the narrator is one of those people who Can Not Leave Well Enough Alone. :D

Fic Recs: [livejournal.com profile] jezziejay has written a wonderful new fic, Hey, Hey, I Saved the World Today .... House and Wilson, in Florida, post-series, and ... well, that's about it. Seriously, that's the story. But ... it's them, both of them yearning towards something neither one can quite define, both of them waiting. Gritty and real and not fluffy at all, this is an absolutely terrific fic.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] sassyjumper has written a second story in her Tiny Home series, in which Wilson decides he needs to simplify his life and House (reluctantly) comes along for the ride. The new fic (Dig in the Dirt) finds them moving into their new tiny home, meeting the neighbors, and generally trying to fit in. Yeah, good luck with that. This is a delightful series that I sincerely hope runs to a full catalog of stories!

And the fic search ... I saw this posted on [livejournal.com profile] hw_reqs, here, and it's been tickling away at the back of my brain ever since. See, I think I remember this story. House thinks Wilson is dead, his burned body found in a torched car. I specifically remember a scene where House is sitting by himself, thinking about Wilson, and then believes he's hallucinating when Wilson shows up. He can smell the scorch, the remnants of smoke, and then Wilson speaks and he's not dead, he's alive. It wasn't his body in the car.

Does anyone else remember this? I was sure it was by [livejournal.com profile] genagirl, but I looked at her stories on Squidge and couldn't find it. Then I thought it might be by [livejournal.com profile] mer_duff, and I stayed up too late last night browsing through her fics, but I couldn't find it there. I know you guys have been ACES at finding lost stories, so I thought I'd appeal here. Anyone recognize the scene? Was it Gena? Was it Mer? Was it someone I'm BLANKING OUT ON ENTIRELY AND WILL BE EMBARRASSED ONCE IT'S FOUND? Well, probably. :D

ETA: Lost fic FOUND in record time. The one I was remembering is Another Chance, by Rennie51. Found in two minutes flat (I am not making that up) by [livejournal.com profile] yarroway. See? I KNEW YOU GUYS COULD DO IT. I would hug all of you if I could. ♥ ♥ ♥
